On Wednesday, July 29, the Field Museum announced the creation of the Patty Gerstenblith Legal Fellowship in Art, Museum, and Cultural Heritage Law, a new endowed, two-year fellowship in honor of Dr. Patty Gerstenblith. We are honored to have Dr. Gerstenblith serving as USCBS’ current President, but her legacy extends far beyond our organization and into the field of cultural heritage law at large. Dr. Gerstenblith is a leading figure in the protection of cultural property and recently retired from decades of leadership at DePaul University College of Law’s Center for Art, Museum & Cultural Heritage Law where she shaped the field through her scholarship and inspired future generations in her teaching.
This fellowship will continue that legacy, supporting emerging attorneys who are pursuing careers at the intersection of cultural heritage, repatriation, museum practice, and nonprofit law. Fellows will receive specialized training in this particular area of legal practice as well as practical experience in museum environments.
Applications for the inaugural fellowship position will open on August 3, 2026. Additional information will be available at fieldmuseum.org/careers.
Congratulations, Dr. Gerstenblith, and thank you!
